55th Reunion-2

An attentive audience  listened to the comments of Steve Green, Timothy McKenna and Dr. A. Richard Polis of the 204, a member of the Board of Managers of the Associated Alumni of Central High School. The topics stressed the evolution of Central from our time to its current status as the number one public school in Philadelphia. Much has changed, and the modernization of the school, made possible by many alumni endowments and supported capital projects such as the King Media Center and the Spain Conference Center, the new gymnasium and locker rooms and the addition of new Science labs, Art Studios, and Computer Labs. and the renovated Auditorium (with new padded seating- I still have splinters from the old wooden seats). Our inquisitive classmates asked many questions regarding the changes in program, and the positive responses indicated that the direction of CHS assured its position of academic excellence in a school district were budgets were cut, libraries were closed, sports were reduced, and class sizes increased. It was evident that much of the success of central is due to the largesse of its alumni.
