John D. Christman wrote in our yearbook (p.7)reflecting on the "Peace" theme of the tome- "Permanent peace...must be built on strength, honor, self-respect and a respect for the dignity of man. High moral principles in our dealings with each other and in international affairs give the greatest promise of a peaceful world; at least they will bring you the inner peace which I wish you may possess. He was a quiet, unassuming man, who barely acknowledged you as you walked by him in the hallway, BUT, be in his office for an infraction, he'd cut you down without raising his voice or changing his demeanor. No one wanted a homeroom slip to "visit" him in his domain. He and Dr. Field were compliments of each other...sort of like "Good cop, Bad cop". The few times I happened to be in his office, I never saw a photo or certificate, a 'knick-knack' or other symbol of his humanity. Was he married? Did he have children? Did he have any interests? All I remember was the bronze desk name plate, "Mr. JOHN D. CHRISTMAN VICE-PRESIDENT". The honorific title has been changed since our days to the more conventional "AssistantPrincipal"
