Saul has dedicated himself to "bring what is great about American music to the forefront of everyone's consciousness". His career has spanned more than twenty years, singing country, blues, bluegrass and other contemporary forms of grassroots American music. His CD 'Travels with Broudy' samples the full range of his repertoire. Click on to CHS Links for a video of Saul's performance of a recently-held Folk Festival (2008) at Rutgers University. In his own words- " My undergraduate studies were at Penn State (1965, anthropology major). I got a Ph.D. in folklore from Penn in 1982(my mother always wanted me to be a doctor!), but have been making my living as a performer(vocal, acoustic guitar, harmonica) since 1970. I like to think of my music as an eclectic mix of everything from traditional folk to bluegrass, country, and blues. I have one CD of my own, have contributed to numerous others as a harmonica sideman, and collaborated with six fellow Vietnam vets on a CD of songs we wrote or learned in Vietnam. I have toured all over North America, and in Europe, Australia/New Zealand, & the Mid-East. It’s been a long trip from singing doo-wop songs in the CHS 1st floor boys’ room and on the South Lawn! After living in Center City Philadelphia most of my adult life, I married Coleen Boyd(oncologic social worker at Fox Chase Cancer Center) in 2004, and we moved to Fox Chase in 2008, where we live with my collection of Macintosh computers and shortwave/ham radios.
