After 34 years of running the Bethlehem Area Public Library, Executive Director Jack Berk is opening a new chapter in his life and will retire early next year.
Berk, 65, said he came to the city in 1973 as the "boy director" and ushered in a new era for the library, first introducing the idea of paperbacks and then adapting the explosion of technology for the library.
From computerizing the card catalogue to installing the Internet for public use, Berk left his mark on the public library system at one of the most dynamic times for his field.
"Technology is going to be growing at a faster pace, and harnessing that technology".
