The bit of wintry weather in early January, 2008 gives the CHS building a colorful panorama against the cloud- filled sky. Imagine that cold February 1st, 1939 morning when staff and students convened in the new facility (the fourth) for the first time. For many CHS students at the time, the ogontz and Olney facility was like something out of "Brave New World", airy, modern, with spacious classrooms, a hugetwo-story library, large gymnasium, a gym cage on the roof (taken down in the mid-sixties, a large auditorium, a planetarioum, spacious music rooms for orchestra and chorus...som much to offer for those used to buildings that dated from post-Civil War through turn-of-the-century Philadelphia. Central High School has recently had extensive modernization with the addition of a second gymnasium and a $12 million dollar renovation project of the barnwell Library complex.(Courtesy, CHS Photo Gallery)
