The third building which housed Central High School occupied one square city block - Broad Street, Green Street, Mt. Vernon, Fifteeth Street. The building had spired roofs and turrets, two observatories (the one on the Fifteenth Street side of the building was destroyed by fire in 1912), a large auditorium with a piped organ, the large Barnwell Library and had both academic and vocational course curriculum. The last day of classes for Central High School was on January 31st, 1939. On the morning of February 1st, the students and staff reported to the new modern facility at Ogontz and Olney Avenues- the fourth and current Central High School. The non-academic program remained in the building, which now became the Benjamin Franklin High School. The venerable old building was raised in 1955 and replaced by a modern facility which stands today as a comprehensive high school.
